Nikon Swings Back into Production

Production is back underway in the production plants located in the prefectures of Miyagi, Tochigi and Ibaraki. While that's good news, there will be no shortage of challenges for them to deal with.

In a statement released on March 31, 2010 and posted on the Nikon international website, it looks like the produciton subsidiaries will be able to secure the raw materials needed, though there still seems to be some question marks hanging over exactly what those quantities will be. That's challenge number 1.

Challenge number 2? Dealing with the planned blackouts that are likely to occur as a result of the Fukushima nuclear power plant being knocked out of operation.

All this considered, it leaves the potential for supply shortages on various Nikon products, and possibly price increases as well, though at this stage, it is hard to see exactly what the effect will be.
